New AO NA Resource Guide Brings Resources for Orthopedic Residency Programs Together in One Place

A new resource for residency program coordinators and directors, bringing educational opportunities, academic resources, professional development, and other tools together in one place.

AO North America has launched its inaugural Resource Guide for Residency Program Coordinators and Directors, bringing together educational opportunities, academic resources, professional development, and other tools available to support orthopedic residency programs and their residents.

Developed with input from a focus group of residency coordinators, the guide brings AO NA’s resources for residency programs together in one place.

While we are well known for hands-on education, there are many other ways residents and programs can engage with AO NA. These include mentorship, research, fellowships, online education, and other opportunities throughout training.

This guide makes those opportunities easier to find and helps programs and residents navigate the broader AO ecosystem in ways that complement the education programs already provide.

What's Inside the Guide?

The AO NA Resource Guide for Residency Program Coordinators and Directors includes:

  • The orthopedic pathway for residents, through fellowship and practice
  • Course calendars across trauma, spine, sports, and hand
  • Academic support tools residents can use between courses
  • Mentorship, networking, and professional development opportunities
  • Information on how residents can complete their AO Profile

Planning Resident Education? Check the Latest Course Calendar

The guide includes 2026–2027 course calendars to help programs plan ahead, but we routinely adds new courses throughout the year.

For the most current opportunities, bookmark the AO NA course finder rather than relying solely on the calendars printed in the guide.

Resident courses can also sell out, particularly in popular locations such as La Jolla and Montreal. If residents have a specific location or date in mind, we encourage them not to delay registration.

A Resource That Will Continue to Evolve

This is the first edition, and we expect it to evolve as we hear more from residency programs.

If there is something you would add, change, or like to see included in a future edition, we want to hear from you. Your feedback will help shape how AO NA continues to support residency programs and the next generation of orthopedic surgeons.
