AO Trauma NA – New Community Development Subcommittees

Sent on behalf of Lisa Blackrick, MD, MS, Chair, AO Trauma NA Community Development Committee

Dear AO Trauma North America Community Members,

Our members have asked for more ways to connect with AO colleagues and learners between AO courses and events. In response, the AO Trauma North America (AO TNA) Community Development Committee is launching three new subcommittees: Ambassador Program, Membership, and Podcasts, and we are seeking members to serve on them. Because these groups are new, the surgeons who join will shape how each program is built and how it serves our TNA Community.

Below is an overview of each subcommittee and the work its members will lead.

Ambassador Subcommittee (Up to 6 vacancies)

Guide a new program that connects AO TNA with trauma surgeons and surgeons-in-training at the state and province level. Members will set program goals, oversee how ambassadors are selected and supported, and evaluate what is working. You could also serve as an ambassador.

As an Ambassador Subcommittee member, you will help:

  • Shape the program by establishing goals, expectations, and measures of success.
  • Guide the recruitment and development of ambassadors.
  • Ensure ambassadors have the tools, training, and support they need to succeed.
  • Monitor engagement and program effectiveness.
  • Improve the program by evaluating feedback and identifying opportunities to increase effectiveness and consistency

Membership Subcommittee ( Up to 6 vacancies)

Help shape a welcoming, valuable AO TNA member experience by joining the Membership Subcommittee. Members will recommend recruitment strategies, improve how new members connect with programs and colleagues, and identify ways to support surgeons through each stage of their careers.

As a Membership Subcommittee member, you will help:

  • Grow membership by identifying prospective members and recommending effective recruitment strategies.
  • Create a welcoming experience by helping connect new AO TNA members to relevant resources, programs, and opportunities to get involved.
  • Strengthen retention by identifying ways to demonstrate AO TNA member value, encourage renewal, and support members through career transitions.
  • Shape the member experience by reviewing membership trends and feedback and recommending improvements across the member journey.

Podcast Subcommittee (Up to 8 vacancies)

Bring meaningful conversations in trauma and musculoskeletal care to a broader audience. Members will help shape practical, engaging, and evidence-based audio education that supports clinical decision-making and improves patient care. The work includes selecting topics, recruiting hosts and guests, upholding scientific and editorial standards, and using listener feedback to strengthen the series.

As a Podcast Subcommittee member, you will help:

  • Shape meaningful content by identifying relevant topics, audiences, episode themes, and educational priorities.
  • Bring episodes to life by developing and sourcing content, and connecting with engaging hosts, guests, cases, and resources.
  • Champion educational excellence by supporting scientific rigor, editorial independence, ethical standards, and a consistent listener experience.
  • Expand AO TNA’s reach and impact by promoting episodes, gathering listener feedback, reviewing performance, and identifying opportunities to continually improve the podcast portfolio.

COMMITMENT

Terms are two years, with the option to serve one additional term. The initial term begins upon appointment and runs through 30 June 2028.
