AO North America was honored to present two awards at the ACVS Surgery Summit in Seattle, WA in October 2025 — an event that highlights innovative advancements in veterinary surgery and research. Each year, the winning resident research abstracts are chosen based on their cross-disciplinary orthopedic relevance and embodiment of the “one medicine” spirit of AO North America.

The Large Animal Resident Research Award was proudly presented to Sarah Ciamillo, DVM, from the University of Pennsylvania – New Bolton Center for her innovative research titled “Bone Injury in Racehorse Fetlocks”.
The Small Animal Resident Research Award was awarded to Rachel McKay, DVM from North Carolina State University for her compelling study titled “Material Effects on 3-D Printed Guide Accuracy”.

AO VET NA faculty and Education Committee member Dr. Laurie Goodrich presented the awards, congratulating these emerging surgeons on their excellent work.
Dr. Shanti Jha, Chair of the AO VET NA Community Development Committee, was also on-hand to commemorate the achievement and celebrate the winners.
Both awardees were recognized not only for their original and important scientific contributions but also for their commitment to pushing forward the field of veterinary medicine, inspiring future generations of researchers.
